To enter IV orders with KCl as an additive, follow these steps from the Orders tab in PowerChart:
Select the Add Order
icon 
to
display the order search window.
From the Search Within drop-down menu, select Continuous Infusions.
In the Find field, type the first few characters of the base IV solution.
Click the order that most closely matches the appropriate order.
Note: Some stock solutions have KCL added. When a stock solution with KCL added by the manufacturer is selected, the KCl will be listed with the Base Solution, and the KCl cannot be reduced from the amount in the base solution.
Click the Done
button.
On the IV Details tab, enter the infusion rate in the Rate field or the number of hours in the Infuse Over field (highlighted in yellow). The complimentary Rate or Infusion time will be calculated when either value is entered.
To specify a different occurrence (if the additive should not be in each bag), click the drop down list in the Occurrence field and select another option.
To select
another additive: Click the Add Additive icon 
to
display the search window with the Additive filter defaulted. To
select another additive, type the first few characters and select the
additive that most closely matches the order to add to the IV.
To specify a different start date and time: click the Details tab. Click the Requested Start Date/Time to display the Detail values for adjustment.
When all details are
complete, click the Sign Now 
button.
Click the As
Of 
button to refresh the order display and see the
newly ordered IV.
